Notifications
What it does
Notifications keep the person who took an order informed about what's happening with it in the kitchen — without them having to walk over and check. A bell icon in the top bar shows a live count of unread notifications, and a matching badge appears next to the notifications item in the side menu. Opening the Notifications page shows the full list, with the newest at the top.
Getting started
- Watch the bell icon in the top bar (and the badge in the side menu) while you have active orders — a number appears as soon as something needs your attention.
- Click the bell, or open Notifications from the side menu, to see the full list.
- Each entry tells you what happened, which item it's about, and which order number it belongs to.
- Use Go to order on an entry to jump straight to Active Orders and deal with it.
- Once you've handled something, dismiss the entry with the trash icon and confirm — it disappears from your list and the badge count goes down.
Key things to know
- Notifications are personal — you only see notifications for orders you took yourself, not orders taken by other staff.
- New notifications appear instantly, live, while you're using the app — you don't need to refresh the page.
- An item you've rejected or a customer's items being ready both trigger a notification automatically — you don't need to do anything to create them.
- Some notifications disappear on their own once the situation is resolved: if the kitchen moves a rejected item forward, or an order is completed or cancelled, the related notification is removed automatically, badge count included.
- A reminder that an item's ready-by time is approaching stays in your list until you dismiss it yourself — it's meant as a nagging reminder, so it won't clear on its own.
- If your connection drops briefly (phone screen locks, wifi hiccup, tab backgrounded), the app reconnects automatically and refreshes your count so nothing gets missed.
- Dismissing a notification always asks for confirmation first, so you won't lose one by tapping the trash icon by accident.
FAQ
Q: What kinds of things trigger a notification?
A: When the kitchen marks one of your items as rejected, when an item is ready, and when an item is getting close to the time it needs to be ready by.
Q: Why did a notification disappear on its own?
A: Rejected-item and ready-item notifications clear automatically once the situation moves forward — for example, the kitchen resumes work on the item, it gets delivered, or the whole order is completed or cancelled. You don't need to dismiss those yourself.
Q: Why is a notification still showing even though I already handled it?
A: The "ready-by time approaching" reminder doesn't clear itself — you need to dismiss it manually once you've acted on it, using the trash icon.
Q: Can I see notifications for orders my coworkers took?
A: No. Notifications only go to the staff member who created the order.
Q: The badge count looks wrong — what should I do?
A: If your connection was interrupted (screen lock, app backgrounded, brief network drop), the app automatically catches up and corrects the count once it reconnects. If it still looks off after that, refresh the page.
Q: Where does "Go to order" take me?
A: It opens Active Orders so you can review or act on the order the notification is about.
Q: Can I accidentally delete a notification by mistake?
A: No — dismissing a notification always asks you to confirm first.
