Modifiers

What it does

Modifiers are the add-ons and choices a guest can attach to a menu item — extra cheese, a choice of sauce, a size, "no onions," or a side. You can group related choices together so staff (and guests ordering from a QR menu) pick from a clear, controlled set, and a modifier can add to or reduce the item's price.

Getting started

1. Open Menu → Modifiers to manage your reusable modifiers and modifier groups in one place. You can also add modifiers directly to a single item from the menu-items list.
2. Create a modifier — give it a name (e.g. "Extra cheese") and a price adjustment.
3. Create a modifier group for a set of choices (e.g. "Choose a sauce") — mark it required or optional, and single-choice or multi-select, then add the individual modifiers to it.
4. Assign modifiers and groups to the menu items they belong to. Once assigned, they appear on the register when that item is added to an order.

Key things to know

• A modifier changes the price by a flat amount or a percentage, and it can be negative (a reduction) — for example "+3.00" for extra cheese, "+10%" for a premium option, or "-2.00" for a smaller portion.
• Groups control how guests choose. A group can be required (they must pick) or optional, and single-choice or multi-select (pick several). A modifier can be marked Default so it's pre-selected.
• Internal modifiers are staff-only. Mark a modifier or group as Internal and it shows in the register's modifier picker for staff, but is hidden from the public/QR menu and doesn't print on kitchen tickets — handy for internal prep notes.
• Self-service visibility controls whether a modifier appears on your QR / self-service menu. Turn it off to keep a modifier for in-house use only, without making it Internal.
• Card-discount eligibility. By default, an add-on that lands on the order as its own line is not touched by loyalty-card discounts. Turn on Eligible for card discount for a modifier to let a loyalty card discount it — but only through the card's catch-all "all items" rate, because an add-on isn't tied to a category. (Add-ons picked together with an item are folded into that item's price, so they're already discounted along with the item — this toggle is about stand-alone add-ons added to the receipt.)
• Allergens can be attached to modifiers too, not just items — so an add-on that introduces an allergen is flagged correctly.
• Reuse across items. Define a modifier or group once in Menu → Modifiers and attach it to many items, or add one-off modifiers straight onto a single item.

FAQ

Q: What's the difference between a modifier and a modifier group?
A: A modifier is a single add-on or option (like "Extra cheese"). A group bundles related choices together (like "Choose a sauce") and controls whether the guest must pick, and whether they can pick one or several.

Q: How do I charge extra — or less — for an option?

Q: What is an "Internal" modifier?

Q: Can a loyalty card discount an add-on like extra cheese?
A: Only if you mark that modifier Eligible for card discount in Menu → Modifiers, and the card has an "all items" rate. Add-ons aren't tied to a category, so a card rule that targets only a category or subcategory won't reach them. By default add-ons are left out of card discounts entirely.
